The Times They Are A Changin': NAPR Website Update
By Michael Levison, Internet Committee Chair
In the next few months you will be seeing a lot of changes within the NAPR website. This is the first major upgrade of the site in the past few years.
One of the major changes will be in the World Job Bank and how physicians view the thousands of opportunities available. We are making the site more user friendly. Physicians will be able to enter their parameters and then see a 150-character description of the opportunities that meet their specifications. Right now they do not see a description until they click on the opportunity itself.
Everywhere the World Job Bank refers to a region, a map of the United States showing the regions will be near by. The physician will be able to simply click on the region they want to include in their job search.
A physician will be able to look at one opportunity and then go to the next opportunity without having to back out of the first opportunity and clicking on the next opportunity.
Physicians will be able to save opportunities in a folder to review at a later date. This way they will not have to start their search all over again.
We have made the physician registration easier. The physician’s time is very valuable. We want to respect that. Therefore we have made it so that registration will take less than a minute.
Bottom line is that the physician will have an easier time identifying opportunities that meet their parameters.
From the recruiter perspective you will only be able to see your opportunities within the World Job Bank. In the past you could see all of the jobs listed. There is no reason for a firm to see other opportunities besides their own. NAPR is in the process of setting up a Split Network. Firms that want to do splits will be able to list their opportunities there for other firms to see.
The look of the website will be modernized to have a fresh, up-to-date look with new vibrant colors and graphics.
As these changes and others take place, more information will be forthcoming. Stay tuned.
Ask Miss Deed...
Dear Miss Deed:
I am writing to you to admit that I violated my contract spelling out how I am supposed to use the World Job Bank. The Security Committee, which, I learned oversees World Job Bank User Agreement breaches, caught me, investigated my breach and sanctioned my firm. I was assessed liquidated damages (I call it a fine) which I paid. I thought things were done. Lo and behold, I am now being investigated by the Ethics Committee. What gives?
Yours truly,
Puzzled
Dear Puzz:
This is a two-fold issue. The User Agreement (contract) you signed setting forth the rules for using the World Job Bank contains language that indicates that the Code of Ethics is incorporated into the User Agreement.
Therefore a breach of the User Agreement may in fact, be a violation of the Code of Ethics. In order to determine this, the Security Committee turns your case over to Ethics which in turn, begins an investigation.
The second issue is that this process is tedious for both the Respondent (in this case, you) and the NAPR. Consequently, the Board of Directors of the NAPR has recently streamlined the process.
In the past, the Security Committee Investigator reported his or her findings to the Security Committee which then ruled on the case. It was then turned over to Ethics which assigned an investigator (all over again) who reported his or her findings to Ethics which rendered its decision.
When the Security Committee Investigator reports the results on a conference call to the Security Committee, four Ethics Committee members are now assigned by the Chairperson of Ethics to listen to the Security Committee Investigator’s report. At the conclusion of the report the four Ethics Committee people leave the phone conference. The Security Committee then discusses the findings and renders its decision.
The four Ethics Committee members then report the Security Committee Investigator’s information to the full Ethics Committee, which in turn, discusses the facts and renders an independent decision.
This may sound cumbersome, but the firm in breach only is subjected to one investigative process. Both the Security and Ethics Committees make decisions without influence by the other; the Respondent only has to tell his or her story once and may still appeal the results of either or both Committee’s decision to the Board of Directors of the NAPR.
Granted it is still a bit long and a little tedious, so I recommend in the future being just a tad more diligent in adhering to the terms of the documents you sign.
Cordially,
Miss Deed
